Are you a plotser or a pantser?
I had full intentions for #NanoWriMo2020 to plot out and be fully prepared and organized during the month of October. But as we know…. ‘the best laid plans of mice and men….’
And so here we are, November 1st and I am trying to download the update for Scrivener, which seems to be taking an eternity.
I’ve done Nano for the last few years and with varied results and experiences, but it has always been an incredibly valuable practice with a multitude of lessons learned. This year I was hoping to knock out a first draft of a story that has been playing in mind for the last 1-2 years. One that has been burning to be born into the world and be shared. In order to do it the justice that I believe it deserves, I wanted to have all of the details hammered out, the characters drawn together in their full glory and the nooks and crannies of their paths explored and chiseled out.
Since that clearly isn’t going to be happening, I am going to allow them, the babies in my mind, to take the lead and tell me where they want to go. To guide me on the path that they have set and experience the tale as much as anyone else would be.
I wish you all luck in your adventures and that the words will come clearly to you, as I do wish so for myself as well. May the odds be in your favor and we can all be the next Brandon Sanderson and write “The Way of Kings”.
